On this pelagic the wind decided not to collaborate and so we had 2 days of very flat sea and no wind at all. These conditions are perfect for whale and dolphin watching but terrible for seabirds... We even postponed the trip for 1 day to try to get a better breeze though it was not enough to make the seabirds more active, although we manage to see 1 Zino's Petrel. We almost saw more species of cetaceans than birds...
On this pelagic expedition Zino's petrel was only observed well with a definite identification on the second day but again, we saw all the aimed seabird species!! Of course, Cory's shearwater Calonectris borealis and Bulwer's petrel Bulweria bulwerii accompany us all days.
A pelagic marked by the very light wind, which is normally not good for seabirds, though we managed to watch all the aimed species, once again! Cory's shearwater Calonectris borealis and Bulwer's petrel Bulweria bulwerii are present everyday as these are the most common seabirds around.
The first days of June were marked by very strong winds from the Northeast quadrant so we might expect some interesting late migrants to visit Madeira...

Red-footed Falcon Falco vespertinus - 2 females + 1 juvenile
Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus phaeopus
2 Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica
15th of June 2015 at Ponta do Pargo
Red-footed Falcon Falco vespertinus - 1 female
5 Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica
This pelagic was marked by the irregular, choppy sea who made some of the participants seasick... But even though they have seen all the seabird species aimed! As usual, Cory's shearwater Calonectris borealis and Bulwer's petrel Bulweria bulwerii were seen everyday.
Indeed we saw them all! Although the wind conditions were not ideal we managed to watch close all the aimed species which makes this another successful Zino's Petrel Pelagic Expedition!
26th May 2015 - The Northerly wind was light, up to 10 knots though the sea was a bit choppy with a swell up to 1.5 meters:

2 Zino's Petrel Pterodroma madeira
3 European Storm petrel Hydrobates pelagicus
Cory's shearwater Calonectris borealis - several birds
