On our second commercial pelagic trip to observe Zino's petrel and several other petrels, in what is called the ultimate pelagics in the Western Palearctic, these are the seabird species observed:
Cory's Shearwaters Calonectris diomedea borealis
2 Fea's Petrel Pterodroma feae
1 Zino's Petrel Pterodroma madeira
2 presumed Zino - 1 with whitish underwings but strong bill and another one flying over the chum block for about 25 minutes
9 Bulwer's Petrels Bulweria bulwerii on the chum at the same time but dozens were seen
1 Yellow-legged Gull Larus michahellis
3 Manx Shearwaters Puffinus puffinus on the chum at the same time but several were seen
Botlenose dolphins Tursiops truncatus on the way to the spot
25th May 2010 - a day with very light wind
3 Zino Petrel Pterodroma madeira
4 Zino's/Fea's petrel - which were renamed by the group as Fino's
1 Madeiran Storm-petrel Oceanodroma castro
Yellow-legged Gulls Larus michahellis - there were lot's of them so we had to loose a chum block for them and went further north.
Bulwer's Petrels Bulweria bulwerii
Cory's Shearwaters Calonectris diomedea borealis
Manx Shearwaters Puffinus puffinus
Due to the lack of wind, which is not good for petrels as they are wind birds we decided to postpone the last day of this pelagic expedition to the 27th of May 2010.
27th May 2010
Cory's Shearwaters Calonectris diomedea borealis
14 Yellow-legged Gulls on the chum Larus michahellis

Manx Shearwaters Puffinus puffinus
1 White-faced Storm-petrel Pelagodroma marina
1 European Storm-petrel Hydrobates pelagicus
