Lang's Short-tailed Blue (Leptotes pirithous) - First record for Madeira

Lang's short-tailed blue

Lang's Short-tailed Blue Leptotes pirithous was seen in Madeira on the 9th of May 2007 in Parque de Santa Catarina and another one in Jardim de São Francisco on the 11th of May, both in Funchal. Now we just need to keep looking carefully to distinguish between the Lang's Short-tailed Blue and the Long-tailed Blue Lampides boeticus to confirm if this new species is resident or migrant.

These observations were made by Paul Crook during his holiday in Madeira and to whom we would like to thank for his contribute for improving our knowledge in Madeira Nature.
